The country’s strong welfare state provides a safety net that offers ex-pats peace of mind, while its high taxes fund generous social benefits such as free healthcare and free education.

Denmark is also an attractive destination for ex-pats due to its strong economy and low unemployment rate. The country is home to a number of world-class companies, and its capital, Copenhagen, is a hub for start-ups and innovative businesses. Travelling in Denmark

Denmark is perfectly located to visit a plethora of fantastic destinations. It is the southernmost country in Scandinavia and borders Germany to the south and Sweden to the northwest. The Skagerrak Strait separates it from Norway, and the sea routes between the countries offer stunning scenery.

Even travelling within the country is a fascinating experience. Denmark consists of a peninsula mainland, Jutland, as well as an archipelago of over 400 islands. The largest of these islands is the North Jutlandic Island, Funen and Zealand, where the Danish capital, Copenhagen, is located. The islands are home to a variety of different landscapes and attractions, from sandy beaches to forests. The island of Kattegat, midway between Jutland and Sweden, is even home to Northern Europe’s largest desert.

Denmark also comprises two other autonomous countries, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. These give Denmark a total landmass of over 850,000 square miles.

Weather in Denmark

Denmark has very mild weather and a similar climate to the UK, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C to 20°C.

However, it can get quite cold in the winter, with temperatures dipping below freezing. Snow is not uncommon in Danish winters, especially in the north of the country. Summers in Denmark are sunny and warm, with highs of up to 30°C.

Like the UK, Denmark has a temperate climate. However, he country enjoys almost half the amount of annual rainfall seen in the UK. However, rain in Denmark is frequent enough to keep summers mild and the Danish countryside lush and healthy while still feeling much less damp than in the UK.

 Speaking Danish

86% of Danes are fluent in English, meaning that British ex-pats can get by easily without knowing Danish.

However, learning a little Danish can make it easier to settle in and make friends, and will also show your commitment to integrating into Danish society. It can also help your job prospects in Denmark.

Danish is surprisingly similar to English, and many ex-pats say that learning some Danish has felt natural and easy. There are many resources available to help you learn Danish, both online and offline, so it should not be too difficult to pick up the basics. Even learning a few key phrases can make a big difference to your experience of living in Denmark, and Danes are always happy to help others learn their language.

Moving from the UK to Denmark

Since Denmark is in the Schengen Area, British citizens can stay in Denmark visa-free for up to 90 days. However, if you want to move to Denmark from the UK for longer than this, there are a few things you need to do before your removals to Denmark.

You will first need to obtain a Danish residence permit. You can do this by applying for one at a Danish embassy, or even before moving to Denmark at a consulate in the UK.

Once you have obtained a residence permit, you will need to find a place to live in Denmark. There are a few options for finding housing in Denmark, including renting an apartment, finding a room in a shared apartment, or living in a student residence hall. Once you have found a place to live, you will need to register your address with the Danish government.

Finally, ex-pats moving from the UK to Denmark will need to obtain a Danish work permit if they wish to work. You can do this yourself, or, alternatively, give your employer permission to apply for you.

While there are now more steps involved in moving from the UK to Denmark than there were before Brexit, Denmark has one of the most organised, streamlined and simple visa processes in the world. Additionally, the Danish government site for visa applications offers extensive information in English.

With its high wages, flexible economy and high standard of living it is no real surprise that Denmark is quickly becoming a popular destination for Brits looking to relocate for a better life abroad. If you are planning to move to Denmark from the UK, ensure that your move is simple and smooth by choosing Matthew James Removals for all your removals needs.
