Located on the Costa del Sol, everything in Marbella is designed for only the best. Another glorious destination for the wealthy and famous, the city has everything one could want when looking to relocate. Marbella actually means ‘beautiful sea’ so you can imagine what the main draw is to the city.
Jobs in the city, like any other place on the Costa del Sol, are geared towards the catering and tourism industry. Even if you only speak English, there is a high chance that you will be able to find a job due to the high level of British and Dutch expats calling the place home. Of course, it is recommended that you have some knowledge of Spanish to give you an edge when job hunting. The INEM office should be your first port of call when looking for work. Due to the city being a tourist destination reliant on the seasons, it is easier to find work in the summer months, when the service industry requires more staff.

There isn’t a big need for an extensive transport system in Marbella. There is a local bus service that costs around €36 per month, and there are many buses that also connect Marbella to other nearby resorts and destinations. Many people choose to navigate the city on their own two feet however, or if you are so inclined, there are plenty of car rental businesses. Driving might be the most attractive option, as there isn’t a local train service running into and out of the city. The nearest airport is the Costa del Sol airport of Malaga and Gibraltar International Airport which are both less than an hour away.
The cost of living in the province of Malaga (where Marbella is situated) is 13.6% lower than in Madrid, so money goes a lot further than in many parts of the country. Marbella is split into six different districts, and each has its own flair to attract those will all sorts of needs. Downtown is lined with restaurants, shops and bazaars. San Pedro de Alcántara is within easy reach of the coast, and contains many inexpensive accommodation options. There are around 8 international Schools in the Marbella region, including Aloha College, Swan International Primary School, and The British School of Marbella. All are easily accessible from the city by car.
There are many festivals the run through the calendar year. Some of the most popular are Crus de Juanar, and Virgen del Carmen. You will spend most of your days relaxing on the pristine beach or utilising the water-sport options such as sailing and jet-skiing. There are some world class Gold courses in the region which draw tourists the world over. Those nature lovers will want to take a hike or tour through the beautiful Andalucian countryside. You can take a 40 minute go kart scenic tour for those who enjoy speed, or take a Segway if you like to take things a little slower.
