So if you are seeking a new life in a country that offers a slower pace of life, excellent living standards and stunning natural beauty, while also offering great work opportunities and a robust economy, moving to Norway could be the best choice for you.

Located on the western side of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Norway boasts some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in Europe. Its relatively low population of 5.2 million is mostly concentrated in the south of the country where it’s bustling and cosmopolitan capital Oslo is situated. Norway’s other main cities of Stavanger and Bergen are located on the southwest coast and, like Oslo, enjoy thriving expat communities who are mainly involved in Norway’s prosperous oil industry.

Norway prides itself on its egalitarian principles and the state support it offers its residents. Everyone in Norway has the right to free medical care as well as free education. These principles are also reflected in its incredibly low crime rate – the Global Peace Index has even ranked Norway as the most peaceful nation on the planet. Norway has several English-speaking schools as well as schools that offer the International Baccalaureate (IB). More information on English-speaking schools in Norway can be found on the European Council for International Schools website.

British citizens do not require a visa to enter Norway as it is a member of the European Economic Area and therefore abides to the EU’s free movement of people policy. However, in order to enter Norway, you will need to have a valid passport and, if you are planning on residing in Norway, you will need to register yourself at one of the service centres situated in Oslo, Kirkenes and Stavanger upon arrival. British expats, as EEA citizens, are also entitled to Norwegian health services if they contribute to social security in the UK. You will need to present your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) as evidence of this entitlement once you arrive in Norway. For more information on entering and living in Norway please visit the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration website.
