EUROPEAN SHARED LOAD
A part/shared load service is a cost effective way to move your goods to and from your destination. The reason this service is so cost effective is that you share the vehicle with other consignments and therefore the vehicle costs are also shared. All consignments are individually prepared, numbered, labelled and inventoried to ensure all items are correctly delivered to you. The main advantage of a part load service is that you will receive the Matthew James service of excellence at the most cost effective price.

Ireland is now one of the most attractive cities to move to within the EU. A stable economy with a thriving tech and science industry, friendly citizens, and breathtaking landscapes mean that it is no wonder that the country features on many top 10 lists of places to move to within the EU. Ireland may not have the weather of Portugal, but you will find plenty of warm and cozy community centers (known as pubs) that will shield you from the rain with bustling atmospheres, roaring fires, and its delicious national drink, Guinness. As more and more people make Ireland their home, the country’s house prices have risen annually, so there has never been a better time to relocate to this fascinating island.
Nearly nine thousand Portuguese people live in Ireland, with the majority living in the capital city of Dublin, and other major cities across the country. Connecting with the expat community in your new home is easy enough, as Inter Nationals hosts expat events and gatherings that bring the international community together. These are the perfect places to get answers to your burning questions, and can really help you understand Irish culture. English is the language most commonly used within the country, but it is important to know that Ireland has its own language known as Gaeilge. Signs are written bilingually, but don’t worry if you don’t know how to speak their native language, as only 10% of the population use it as their first language.

How can I move to Ireland?
Being an EEA country, Portuguese nationals have a visa free right to stay in Ireland for three months (extended to six months if you are looking for a job) as long as you have a valid passport or identity card. If you want to stay for an extended period of time, then you must either be already in work, be able to prove that you have enough money to sustain yourself in an emergency, sickness insurance to support yourself and your family if you have one (even though healthcare in Ireland is free), or be enrolled as a student or vocational trainee.
There is no need to register with the local immigration office, and you do not need a residence card to live there unless you are wanting to stay there permanently. You are entitled to apply for a permanent residency after five years of continued living in Ireland. Continuous residency is not affected by absences of less than six months, or one absence of 12 months for pregnancy and childbirth, serious illness, vocational training, or if you are posted to another country by your employer in Ireland. Provided that you meet the criteria after those five years, you can undergo a citizenship test.
Taxing and pensions in Ireland
Income made in Ireland is taxed at 20% which is known as the standard rate band. Non-Irish nationals will need to register for a Personal Public Service (PPS) number when they arrive to make sure that they are paying appropriate tax on all of their income, both foreign (as long as this amount doesn’t exceed 3,810 euros per year) and domestic. Those with incomes from both Ireland and from a different country will need to fill out a tax return form by the 31st of October every year, which can be submitted online or in the post.
If you wish to retire to Ireland, then you must be able to provide independent verification of your compliance with the financial conditions which must be certified by an Irish accountancy firm. All details and processes can be found on irishimmigration.ie
Travelling in Ireland
All of the major cities are linked by trains, with most lines feeding in and out of Dublin, which makes Ireland a very accessible country, and as the country is not that large, most destinations can be reached within a matter of hours. If you need to travel to more rural areas or smaller towns, then driving is definitely going to be your best option. It’s good to be aware that the Irish drive on the left side of the road, so this will take some getting used to.
EU driving licenses are valid in Ireland, and can be used to rent cars if you do need to drive somewhere.
