Let Matthew James take the stress out of your move…

EUROPEAN SHARED LOAD
A part/shared load service is a cost effective way to move your goods to and from your destination. The reason this service is so cost effective is that you share the vehicle with other consignments and therefore the vehicle costs are also shared. All consignments are individually prepared, numbered, labelled and inventoried to ensure all items are correctly delivered to you. The main advantage of a part load service is that you will receive the Matthew James service of excellence at the most cost effective price.

Almería is Andalucia’s Easternmost Capital. This charming Spanish city is famous for the massive Alcazaba (a Moorish castle) which overlooks the city. Largely un-benefiting from the touristic boom of the 60’s and 70’s, Almería remains uniquely untouched, meaning it is a beautiful slice of traditional Spain set on the Mediterranean coast. You will struggle to find a Fish ’n’ Chip shop or Full English here.
The Province of Almería is experiencing a tourist boom, however, which is handy because this means that more English speaking jobs are on offer. Most of these are based around the retail and hospitality sectors, but as with many costal cities along the south of Spain, there are opportunities in the property market as well (but a little knowledge of Spain is required)! It does have to be said though that not having a strong grasp on the language will not hinder your employment options by too much, as many locals are able to communicate fluently in English. Also, cities like Almería are always looking for English Language teachers.

It is easiest to get around on foot in the city, as many streets are closed off to cars or are simply not built to accommodate motor vehicles. There certainly is a bus service though, and whilst they run less frequently than other major Spanish cities, they will still get you from A to B without too much trouble, and there are plenty of routes to and from the coastal resorts. It is advised that you purchase/rent a car as train travel in Almería is basically non-existent, so you won’t be able to get far without four (or two) wheels. You can get a train to Madrid and Barcelona (and one to Malaga) but that is about it. The city is only 20 minutes from the nearest airport, Almería Airport.
Be carful when purchasing property that it is structurally sound. Some properties might not last too much longer than after you move in as the city, as already implied, it is not a rolling metropolis. Of course the closer you get to the harbour, the more expensive properties are going to be. There are some beautiful alternatives to the city life just up the hills like Pechina and Viator, which will provide you with peace in busy tourist month, but will still allow you to get to the beach in 15 mins. There are no international schools in the city, but there are some in the larger Almería region. Public and Private Spanish schools are still a good option, however, as the standard are high, and non-Spanish speaking students have access to free intensive Spanish lessons.
There are plenty of things to do in Almería besides spending day after day enjoying the sun and sea activities on the beach (which you will be able to get enough of). You can experience beautiful Kayaking tours through the (inactive) volcanoes of Cabo de Gata Natural Park, or go Canyoning in its many caves and cliff edges. Obviously you need to visit the Alcabaza as it is the most visited attraction in the city.
